Hello financial newcomer! As stated on the "About my Project" page, this website is part of my Girl Scout Gold Award Project; the Gold Award being the highest award a girl scout can earn in Girl Scouting. The Gold Award is designed for girls to build skills such as leadership, courage, confidence, risk taking, decision making, etc. Below you can read a little bit more about my project and some of my goals!
When trying to think of ideas for my Gold Award, I decided that I want to help those in need of a little motivation to start budgeting, planning, and saving their money. I have made, and put on this website, many tools that I believe will be beneficial to those in need of help or wanting to start financial planning. With this project, I hope to reach a wide audience of people that could use the information available to help them start budgeting, planning, and investing their money. Many people who are living paycheck-to-paycheck and are new entrants to the workforce are suffering through financial instability. This lack of knowledge leads them to run out of money especially for basic needs, such as food, prior to the end of the pay period.
The root causes of financial instability that I am addressing within my project are the lack of knowledge of budgeting one’s money and planning one’s expenses. There are numerous causes of financial instability, such as the lack of employment and/or stable employment, illiteracy/education/lack of skills, unforeseen difficulties, etc. Having a basic understanding of budgeting and financial planning, not only solves one of the most direct causes of financial instability, but also leads an individual to look for ways to solve many of the other causes. For example, once a basic understanding of financial literacy is developed, an individual can come to realize the benefits of steady employment, the value of improved training and education, and the benefit of having a “rainy day” savings plan. Therefore helping the financially unstable gain basic insights into financial planning, will have the additional benefit of highlighting other “next steps” towards financial independence.
